slimKEYS - slimSEARCH extension
The slimSEARCH extension gives you instant access to searching the web, and more. Press Ctrl-Win-S, and a very
simple window with a single text box appears.
By default, pressing Enter will search for the text you typed on Google,
pressing Alt-Enter will search on Windows Live
and pressing Ctrl-Enter will search on Yahoo,
but not only is this configurable, you already have other options out of the box. slimSEARCH is configured to support
a list of target searches, as we can see by pressing the [+] button.
Thus, you have two alternatives to pressing Enter, Alt-Enter or Ctrl-Enter to target a specific
search entry. You can use its mnemonic (the underlined letter) or its prefix right before the text to search. For example, to
search for "Barack Obama" on Google Images, you can either type "Barack Obama" and press Alt-I, or type
"gi Barack Obama". Where does that "gi" prefix comes from? Let's look at slimSEARCH's options.
Every web search entry has a title and a prefix. If a letter in the title is preceded by an ampersand (&), this becomes
its mnemonic. The prefix does not have to be the same. If you scroll down the search entry list, you'll see other kinds of
search entries: Web Address Filter and Start new process. These special entries let you type other things than search queries.
For example, typing "slimcode.com" in slimSEARCH and pressing Enter will not search for "slimcode.com" on Google, as
one might think. Instead, the Web Address Filter recognizes this is a web address and opens it. Would you like to start a new
process from the PATH? Type the executable name and press Alt-S, and the Start new process special entry will run it.
Developers
can easily build new slimSEARCH entry types too.
